1831 Apr. 9:  James Prickett agreed to sell SE ¼ of S20, T5, R12 to Joseph Vance.  From Deed book J, page 220, Champaign Co., OH: "...All That parcel of land in said county known as the southeast quarter of section twenty (20), town five (5), range 12 ??  which said land was patented to Joseph Wisham assignee of James Brown and by the said Wisham devised by his last will to his  daughter Rebecca Parker now Rebecca Prickett, wife of the said James Prickett..."  Deed was recorded 8 Nov. 1831 in Champaign Co., OH.

1832 Feb. 15:  John Prickett was born in Champaign Co., Ohio.

1834:  The James Prickett family moved to what was then La Salle Co., Illinois, according to county history descriptions and Elijah Prickett's obituary.

1834:  Elizabeth Prickett was born in La Salle Co., Illinois.

1835 Jun. 18:  Date of record for land patent granted to James Prickett for 40 acres in Kendall Co., IL, "5 frl. ½ S I B L" S21. (Kendall Co., IL, land records)

1835 Oct.:  Jane Ellen Prickett was probably born about this time in La Salle Co., Illinois

1839 Jan 28:  Date of record for land patent issued to Barnabas Osburn, assignee of James Prickett for S ½ of S21 in T35N, R6E of 3rd PM..

1839 Nov. 21:  Date of record for purchase of 80 acres of land by James Prickett located at W ½ of NE ½ of S21.  (Kendall Co., IL, land records)

1839 Dec. 21:  A land patent was granted to James Prickett on this date in Kendall Co., IL.

1840:  Aaron Prickett was born in La Salle Co., Illinois.

1840:  Federal Census:  The James Prickett family was enumerated in Big Grove Township, La Salle Co., Illinois, p. 139 (Five families away from Abraham Holderman).  The family consisted of 1 male less than 5 years old (Aaron), 2 males (John and Charles) and 2 females (Jane and Elizabeth) between 5 and 10, 2 males (Joel and Elijah) between 10 and 15, 1 female between 30 and 40 (Rebecca), and one male between 40 and 50 (James).

1841 Jul. 1:  Date of record for land patent granted to James Prickett by United States of America for NE ¼ of S21, T35, R6E.   Filed 30 Dec. 1873, (Book 34, p. 72).

1843 Mar. 10:  Date of record for land patent issued to James Prickett for SE ¼ NW ¼ of S21, T35N, R6E of 3rd PM in Kendall County, Illinois.

1843 Sep. 5:  J.R. Prickett died on this date according to a tombstone in the Newark-Millington Cemetery.  The tombstone is shared with Rebecca Prickett and might be Joel R. Prickett.  However there is a Joel Prickett who seems to be the correct age to be our Joel Prickett who is enumerated with John and Naomi Prickett near Charles and Adaline Prickett in the 1860 Federal Census for Grundy Co., IL.  Also, a Joel Prickett is involved in land transactions with John in 1861.  Joel had evidently died by 1877 when the "History of Kendall County..." was written by Rev. E.W. Hicks (see 1877 below).

1843 Nov. 14:  James Prickett died on this date.

1844 Sep. 7:  The date on Rebecca Wisham Prickett's tombstone is actually 7 Sept. 1841.  That date is inconsistent with the obituary of Elijah Prickett that indicates that Rebecca died in 1844.

1850:  Federal Census:  (The Federal Census taken in Kendall County, Illinois in this year omits many of the surnames of household members and therefore it is impossible to absolutely identify any of the children other than Elizabeth and Aaron whose surname is listed.)  Elijah (age 25) possibly living w. Elisha Taylor in Big Grove Twp. (Kendall), Illinois, p. 583.  Joel (age 23) possibly living w. Lopt Schofield in Big Grove Twp. (Kendall), Illinois, p. 593.  Charles (age 22) possibly living w. Thomas  Spencer in Big Grove Twp. (Kendall), Illinois, p. 582.  John (age 17) possibly living w. William Stephen in Big Grove Twp.  (Kendall), Illinois, p. 583.  Elizabeth (age 16) and Aaron (age 10) living w. John Mason in Big Grove Twp. (Kendall), IL,  p. 594.  Jane (age 14) possibly living w. Herman Dodge in Big Grove Twp. (Kendall), Illinois, p. 575.  There is also a John Prickett (age 21, b. OH) enumerated in Grundy Co., IL, p. 345.

1851 Jan. 1:  Elijah married Hannah "North" in Kendall Co., IL.  Rev. Charles L. Bartlett conducted the ceremony.  "North" must have been the surname of Hannah's first husband.  In the 1850 Federal Census of Kendall Co., IL, (p. 570) the Hiram Scofield family was enumerated as:  Hiram (age 51, b. NY), Martha (age 50, b. NY), Miner (age 19, b. NY), Horace (age 17, b. NY), Andrew  (age 11, b. NY), Martha (age 6, b. NY), Hannah (age 27, b. NY), and William (age 2, b. IL).  Hiram and Martha could be the parents of Hannah, and William could be her son by a marriage to ? North.  Marriage record for Elijah and Hannah is on file in Kendall Co., IL.   (Continued on their own family group sheet.)

1851 Mar. 11:  Date of record for purchase of land by James Prickett from Lancelot Rood located in S21, T35, R6E.  (Book H, p. 106).

1851 Mar. 15:  Date of record for purchase of several small pieces of land by Charles and Elijah Prickett from Joel Prickett in Kendall Co., IL, "Part of SW ¼ and W ½ of SE ¼, SW ¼ of W ¼, W ½ of NE ½, SE ¼ of NW ¼, S21, T35, R6E."  (Book K, p. 8)

1852 May:  Sometime during this month Jane Ellen Prickett died.  Her tombstone is broken, but indicates that she died in May at the age of 16 years and 7 months.  From my speculation on her enumeration in the 1850 Federal Census, I am assuming that the year of her death was 1852 since the date in the enumeration had her being born in 1835.

1852 Dec. 15:  Date of record for purchase of NW ½ of W ½ of SW ¼ of S11, T35, R6E by Joel and Elijah Prickett from Chester Parker in Kendall Co., IL. (Book K, p. 7).

JAMES PRICKETT, from Champaign County, Ohio, was among the earliest to make a claim at Long Grove, but when he returned with his family the claim was jumped, and he bought another in Apakesha Grove.  It is still owned by Elijah Prickett.  The only evidence of Mr. Kellogg's claim there was some rails he had cut in the timber.  Besides Elijah, Mr. Prickett had three other sons:  Charles, now living at Nettle Creek; John, at Seneca; and Aaron, below Dwight.  Also a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Bowen, near Lisbon.  His first log house had door and floor of basswood puncheons, and still stands back in the grove, a relic of bygone days.  He died after being in the country nine years, and his wife survived him but one year.
