in the Eaton Herald (exact date unknown):
EATON BUSINESS PEOPLE. A Few Moments with the Men
Who Make Up the Business Life of the Community. Oscar Anderson.
Oscar Anderson, proprietor of Anderson’s
Cash Food Store, was born in Smaland, Sweden,
in 1877. When 14 years
old, he took passage for America,
coming to Holdrege, Neb., where a married sister lived. For five years he worked on his
brother-in-law’s farm and attended school.
When 20 years old, Mr. Anderson had
saved enough money to send for his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Anderson, who
settled on a farm near Holdrege and were assisted by their son. In 1901, Mr. Anderson was married to Miss
Minnie Swanberg and the couple moved to their own
farm, where they stayed 9 years. Then
they moved to Grantsburg, Wis., where Mr. Anderson operated a meat
market for three years and spent the next four years buying cattle for a
commission house.
The family next moved back to a farm near Holdrege,
where they stayed four years. In 1921
Mr. Anderson and family came to Eaton and he purchased Dailey’s Market, which
he has operated since that time.
Mr. Anderson, like so many of his countrymen, took
out his naturalization papers soon after becoming 21 years old and has become
as much of an American citizen as one native born. He is the sole living member of a family of
12, all of the children except him having died before their parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have three children, Mrs. Frank
Reeman, Don and Mike Anderson. The two boys assist in the management of the
store, while Mr. Anderson spends the greater part of his time buying livestock
and dressing it for the meat market. The
store, which is a combined grocery and market, is modern and equipped with the
newest type of refrigeration system for the storage room and display cases.
1930 Federal Census enumerated this family at 231 Park Street,
Eaton, Weld County, Colorado (ED 25, sheet 2B, line 54).
