Ancestry of the Pilgrim Fathers by Banks:
The Winslow estate in Kempsey
was called Kerswell and the name was given to the
Winslow estate in Plymouth
as Careswell. The
will of Thomas Harton of Kinsham,
parish of Bredon, 1620, in scheduling his bad debtors
names among them Edward Winslow, a deputy sheriff of Worcestershire, who had
fled to Ireland.
Edward, Jr.:
Elizabeth Barker died 24 March 1621 in Plymouth.
Edward m. 2nd Susanna White, widow of William White
who also died in Plymouth,
12 May 1621. This was the first
marriage in New England. Served as governor of the Plymouth colony three
times. Returned
to England in 1753 to head
expedition to West Indies for Oliver Cromwell.
Gilbert: Plymouth, third brother of Gov. Edward, with whom he came
in the Mayflowe",
1620, had lot in the division of lands 1624, but none in the 1627 division of
cattle, so that perhaps he went home before that act; though Dr. Young, "Chronicles of Pilgrims," p. 275,
thinks he went to Portsmouth. But the indisputable word of Bradford (in
history since discovered), p. 454, shows that he went to England and
there died before 1650.
Josiah: Marshfield, youngest brother of Gov. Edward, came with Allerton in the White
Angel, arriving at Saco, 27 June 1631.
